PW Overlay

Safety

PW Overlay is not a bot: what it does and what it never will

You play, at your PC: PW Overlay only takes the alt-tab away. It injects nothing, never plays on its own and keeps your passwords on your computer only; what you may use is up to your server’s rules. Here it is in writing: what it does, what it never will and who stands behind it.

What it does and what it never will

A shortcut tool for people who play with several accounts: everything goes through Windows, with you at the PC.

What it does

  • Opens one Perfect World client per account and logs each one in, using the password stored on your PC.
  • Puts a panel on top of the game so you can switch accounts without alt-tab.
  • Sends keys and clicks through Windows’ own input messages. Buffs, assist, follow and combos reach your other accounts in the background, without switching your window; forming and disbanding the party use the leader’s window for a few seconds (the app brings the leader to the front, types the names and clicks: don’t touch the mouse until it’s done).
  • Only acts when you press a shortcut. A combo runs for as long as you choose, even with no limit, but it only presses the keys you set up: it doesn’t move, pick targets or react to the game. Staying at the PC is up to you, and your server requires it (on The Classic, rules 2.2.1 and 2.2.5).

What it will never do

  • Inject code into the game, read its memory or touch the packets sent to the server.
  • Play on its own: no AFK mode, no pathing, no farming without you at the PC.
  • Sell “anti-ban” or hardware ID (HWID) changes. If your server forbids a feature, the answer is not to use it.
  • Send your passwords to any server, ours included.

Server rules

Your server’s rules are the ones that count

Every server has its own multiboxing rules, and those are what count. Today the app recognizes one server, The Classic PW 1.2.6, a Brazilian server (see the 1.2.6 servers): there, the server card shows the version, the ping and what the rules forbid (following the leader and repeating actions, rule 3.1.4). The card doesn’t show what falls outside what the rules allow: on The Classic, forming the party, buffs and leader assist fall outside what rule 2.2.5 allows, so use them only with the staff’s written permission.

The app doesn’t lock any feature on any server, The Classic included: it shows the rules, and you decide what to use. That’s why each server’s rules, with the source link and the date we checked it, is on the server list. When in doubt, ask your server’s staff first.

In the app, every hotkey comes switched on, Follow leader and Repeat sequence included. Where your server doesn’t allow a feature, remove its hotkey under Settings → Shortcuts, with the × next to it. On The Classic, remove Follow leader and Record and replay actions (forbidden) and, without written permission, Create party, Buff everyone and Leader’s target (outside what rule 2.2.5 allows). The × only removes the hotkey: the button stays on the panel, so just don’t click it. The hotkey for each feature is under hotkeys that stay out of the way.

A broken rule is a bug: tell us

If the app or this site says something is allowed and your server’s rules say it isn’t, the mistake is ours. Send us the link to the rules on Discord or at contato@pwoverlay.com and we’ll fix it.

On The Classic 1.2.6, the app shows what the rules forbid; what falls outside what they allow (party, buffs, assist) is on the server’s page.

Password

Your password stays on your PC

Your account passwords are stored on your computer, encrypted by Windows’ own data protection (DPAPI) and tied to your Windows user: they only open there.

They never go to any server, ours included. The app only uses a password when it opens that account’s client: it goes to the game as a launch parameter, the same login and password the client accepts from a launcher, so it shows in the process command line (in Task Manager, for example) while the game is open.

If Windows data protection isn’t available for your user (it’s rare), the app still keeps the password only on your PC, but merely encoded (base64), without Windows encryption.

Recording or streaming? Turn on Recording mode in Settings → General: it hides logins, email and folders from the screen.

Your password stays encrypted in your Windows and never goes to any server.
  • Encrypted by Windows Windows data protection (DPAPI)
  • Tied to your user Another Windows user can’t open it
  • Never leaves your PC No server receives it

Data

What leaves your PC

Only what helps us fix and improve the app, and none of it includes passwords, logins, characters or email.

Reports never carry your login, password, character or email, and you can turn them off.
  • Error reports

    Sentry Can be turned off

When something goes wrong: the error, what the app was doing right before it, the server that was open (the name you gave it, its network, client version and build), the app version and technical details of your PC (Windows, memory, processor, screen), so we can fix it fast. Your user folder name and any email address are removed from the text before it leaves.

  • Usage statistics

    PostHog Can be turned off

Which features you use and how often (party setup, combos, shortcuts…), the settings you change, how many accounts and servers you have, how many minutes each session lasts, the name you gave the server, its network, its client version and build, the app and Windows versions, your language, your plan and whether you’re signed in. The country comes from the IP on arrival; the IP isn’t stored.

  • Updates

    GitHub

The app checks PW Overlay’s GitHub for new versions; the installer and the updates come from there. While the game is open, it doesn’t download or install anything: it waits for you to close it.

  • Premium account

    PW Overlay

If you sign in to your PW Overlay account to use Premium, the app checks your plan on our server. That’s your PW Overlay account, never your game accounts.

Both reports are on by default, and you can turn each one off in Settings → General. They’re for us only: we never pass this data on to any game server or its staff.

They carry a support code, a random number created at install. If you ask for help, send us that code (it’s in Settings → General) and we can find your PC’s errors.

What goes where is in the privacy policy.
